Black water

Black water is dirty water that comes from water saving-toilets and food waste points. The water-saving- toilets used only 1 liter per flush and food waste points (that use a small amount of water) are connected to a vacuum system. Blackwater can't be used for drinking water or washing water, but black water can be used for another purpose. The second sewer system collects the slurry and food remnants of black water, creating the possibility to extract energy and valuable resources on site.

Process

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text]The 130 households produce around 2 cubic meters of black wastewater per day. This black water is transported in a vacuum sewage system through the suction of a vacuum pump. The vacuum station ensures that the vacuum pipeline system is constantly under pressure. The black water which is in the vacuum station will be transported to a fermentation installation. This water will be fermented in a digesting installation (mesophilic Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Reactor). Out of this installation two (water), streams remain: (1) organic sludge stream (0,02 m3/d); and (2) a more diluted and nutrient-rich stream (2 m3/d). After the fermentation installation, there are multiple solutions possible. Two situations have been chosen.

Biogas

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text]Biogas can be used for heat-up fermentation installation. In the fermentation, process biogas is produced. This is directly used to keep the UASB-reactor at a constant temperature between 30 – 40 degrees Celcius. Blackwater will be preheated with a heat exchanger.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/12″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”5/12″][vc_column_text]

Silt

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text]The silt of black water can be stored in the buffer tank. The silt in the buffer tank will be disposed of occasionally and can be processed in fertilizer.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”200px”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
